book thread 2020 - 📖✨
THINGS IN JARS by jess kid.

this book was such a treat 🥺 the first book to be five stars to me and make my cry when I finished it in a really long time. I never wanted it to end.
From reading reviews this seems to be a super polarizing book and tbh the first 30 or so pages I was thinking I would hate this lol. The writing style is a little overly ornate and I’m not usually a fan of British media or detective stories but GOD... this book!! :(
MEDDLING KIDS by edgar cantero
- ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭑ ⭒ 🐶🔎

sometimes you just have to read lovecraftian AU scooby doo fanfic w/ canon lesbians and just have fun as a form of self care
if you overlook some of the more on the nose points in the beginning of this book and just let it take you there, this is a really fun book w really great monsters and really great characters!! I had so much fun wtf!
OK after sleeping on it I think I’d knock meddling kids to 3.5 stars + for people thinking abt picking it up: there’s a few moments that could definitely be read as transphobic. I feel like I’ve been kind of recommending it to people and I don’t want it upsetting anyone

Me seeing this has a 4 star average on goodreads
ANNA K. by jenny lee

Guilty pleasure trash escapism! I always love classics reimaged with high schoolers. Riddled w too many weird references + veered into “how do you do fellow kids” territory too much - but I also got misty eyed @ the end so??
DAISY JONES & THE SIX by taylor jenkins reid

Quick, fun read but for a book clearly inspired by fleetwood mac it somehow felt tame / a little boring at times. Definitely excited for the show tho 0:
NORSE MYTHOLOGY by neil gaiman

★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ⚡️

a decent intro to Norse myth if you know little about it, but ultimately really unfulfilling
THE WITCHES OF NEW YORK by ami mckay

GORGEOUS writing and clearly such a care and love for both the gilded age and paganism but with characters that felt too flat to rate this higher
i need to update this thread badly but my list of 2020 books really just proves i have the mind of a simple bird.... i see a bright color.... i add it to my cart
so! i've decided to not update this thread unless i really liked the book i just finished. partially because i just had like an 8 book stretch of "okay"s and partially because authors/agents/etc interacted w a few tweets and i need to reign in my potential to be bitchy
that being said.... i just finished the library of legends by janie chang (which comes out next month!) and i'm really at a loss for what to say other than it was amazing and i'll be thinking about it for a very long time
