[THREAD]

I have a rule that if it's on the menu, I have to order a Sticky Toffee Pudding.

From now on, I'll be tweeting a review of each one because:

a) it's the best pudding and we must maintain high standards

b) why not?
1. The Old Buttermarket, Canterbury: *7/10*

Pretty solid pudding. Bold move to not include sauce, but despite that, suitably moist. Presentation not typical but worked.

Too many dates making the texture a bit "busy". Far too much ice cream but overall good portion size.
2. We've had to briefly suspend this thread for obvious reasons but got my hands on this STP from Waitrose!

Raw score would have been 3/10. This STP was a non event: truly unremarkable. But when controlled for no restaurant and a global pandemic, it came out at a strong 8/10.
And we're back!

3. The Water Rats, King's Cross: *6/10*
Decent STP overall but let down on a few points. Big portion size but incredibly stodgy. Lots of sauce although a tad too sweet for me. Caramel sauce on the ice cream was unnecessary. Burnt on the bottom which was a shame
4. The Bathampton Mill, Bath:
*5/10*
Poor start as I had to extract unidentified bits which almost my teeth in the first mouthful. Ice-cream had also practically melted by the time it reached the table. That aside, good balance of sweetness in the sauce and good portion size.
5. The Betjeman Arms, King's Cross: *8/10*
The one to beat so far! Initial impressions (too little sauce, too much ice cream) were misplaced. Very good texture and right amount of dates for my taste, right level of sweetness when taken together, and perfect portion size.
6. The Raven, Bath: *0/10*

This was missold as a sticky toffee pudding. It wasn't. It was some kind of toffee sponge. If I was reviewing toffee sponges, then it would have come in very strongly. But I wasn't: I asked for an STP and expected an STP. Not good enough. Sort it out.
