would people be interested in local history archive tweets? If you say no you hate the working class and migrants
Footscray is named after a town in Kent (now suburb in SE London near Sidcup) called Foots Cray. These pages are from Foots Cray by Gertrude Nunn. I can’t get over how goofy “Foots Cray” looks, it’s like if Grimes was a local history buff
If anyone goes to Foots Cray send me something

YES we stink YES we are a seething mass of corruption NO it probably won’t kill you (Charlie Lovett, 1930s column)
I remember I often used to hear people confidently declaring that Footscray stank and I was like “I’ve had enough of this offensive, unfounded stereotype” but turns out it wasn’t unfounded, just outdated
ever wondered why Barkly St becomes Hopkins St right in the middle of downtown Footscray even though it’s really confusing? it’s because people threw a shitfit about erasing the legacy of local identity E Hopkins, whose accomplishments include *squints* being popular???
