Something else I noticed from last night at the MSU basketball and it’s a small thing: EJ Datcher. In his first 2 years at State, Datcher was a pretty big piece off the bench. Played in 61 games as a freshman & a sophomore for Howland. Now, we haven’t seen much of him.
As a junior last year, 6 appearances. As a senior this year, 0 appearances. Most players in his spot would transfer to play & he’s good enough to. But he’s stayed & instead of sulking or being selfish on the bench, he’s energetic & celebrating every play on the bench.
So many times last night EJ was the 1st off the bench to celebrate a big play or get the sideline hyped. That doesn’t go unnoticed from me nor his team I imagine. Even when he doesn’t get PT, EJ is still being a great teammate & in this age of the Portal, that’s pretty special.
So yeah, props to you EJ Datcher. Not only for sticking it out but for finding a way to contribute even when your number isn’t called. We need more kids like him in college basketball.
