THREAD: Media concern about parties straying from the center seems to be strictly reserved for Democrats. In fact, Googling "Are Republicans moving too far right?" results almost exclusively in articles about Dems moving too far left...

Republican "never Trumpers" were once using the same bigoted rhetoric that Trump ran with in the first place?

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

A record number of self-declared white nationalists ran for office as Republicans during the last midterms, naming Trump as their inspiration?

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

A Washington GOP rep "engaged in and supported the training of youth and young adults to fight a holy war" for a right-wing militia?

Or

When a right-wing militia's threats caused a state of emergency in VA?

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

White House senior policy adviser Stephen Miller was caught sending white supremacist literature that influences his white supremacist policies to a white supremacist website?

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

Republicans responded to the military's white nationalism problem by removing the words "white nationalism" from the screening process?

Is it not worth asking if Republicans are moving too far right when:

Steve King's blatant white nationalism wasn't enough to earn Trump's or even most of his voters' unequivocal condemnation and loss of support?

Republicans exclude POC from the democratic process through gerrymandering and voter suppression while ensuring that federal judicial appointments are the least diverse since Reagan?

What can you say about a party that actively resists its country's changing demographics? Whose policy platform (from Muslim bans to voter suppression) seems to be based solely on its own white Christian identity and staying in power.

You can surely say that it's too far right.

When Democrats move "too far left," the conversation turns to universal healthcare and climate action. But when Republicans move too far right, it turns to white nationalism and unification of Church and State. Why the constant need for false equivalencies?

In the end, it's quite clear that corporate media outlets deem that a political party has gone "too far" and needs to be reined in only when that party suggests policies that threaten corporate interests. That's because corporate media will always serve corporate interests first.
