Random favorite Little Women moments
-Marmee readying herself to go into the living room on Christmas morning
-Jo telling Professor Bhaer no one will remember him, esp in the context of this adaptation
-The sounds design on the Jo and Beth beach scene
-Literally everything Meryl Streep does as Aunt March. I’m dying to know what she says to Timothee Chalamet when he asks her to dance
The March family with the Hummels on Christmas and the feeling of community there
That both this and the 94 movie were produced by Robin Swicord, who gets that a atory as strong as this has depth and nuance as time passes
That they found a way to make the Meg spends too much money on fabric scene feel not paternalistic and weird
Obviously everything Florence Pugh does, but the way she cackles when Jo burns off Meg’s hair
Also watching it with my sister made it 800 times more heartrending, and we grew up watching the ‘94 version in a loop
The sequence where Marmee reads Mr. March’s letter to the family is ruining. That and maybe it was because I cried through the ending the first time, but that brief glimpse of the March sisters as little girls
This is also just my favorite version of Marmee, period
This is also my favorite version of Beth; her death was profoundly upsetting in this one because she wasn’t just sad martyr Beth. I love that they left in the whole slippers side story
I also love Hannah I’m here and how much she feels like the March family. I think that’s my biggest takeaway about why I love this version, outside of the meta. Most versions of Little Women are Jo- or maaaybe Jo and Amy-centric. This one actually felt holistic
There’s a shot of Laurie, his grandfather, and Mr. Brooks all staring at the March family in wonder, and you really get why people would want to be friends with the entire family
