Eek. The test report for L.A.’s new voting system says that “The excessive root access & the ability to boot the system from a USB port give access to the system by unauthorized individuals, which can result in undetected changes to files and data.” Can this be fixed?! 1/
Link to test report. A list of problems begins in page 12. Will these problems all be remedied before the system is used in March?! Is that even feasible at this late date? 2/ https://votingsystems.cdn.sos.ca.gov/vendors/LAC/vsap2-func.pdf">https://votingsystems.cdn.sos.ca.gov/vendors/L...
3/ Note that L.A. rejected hand marked paper ballots in favor of universal use ballot marking devices (BMDs), the risks of which I discuss here. https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/12/17/how-new-voting-machines-could-hack-our-democracy/">https://www.nybooks.com/daily/201...
4/ Meanwhile, a “just-released study says over ninety percent of errors introduced by ballot marking devices go undetected.” #HandMarkedPaperBallots https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2020/01/ballot-marking-devices-election-security/">https://www.motherjones.com/politics/...
