THREAD: transit systems I've had the pleasure and displeasure of riding, because I love public transportation, no matter how gross it is. FUCK CARS!!!
I obviously have to start with the MTA. Which is absolute GARBAGE!! but that hoe really do be moving hella bodies. If you take the J from broad st to Jamaica center.....shit is beautiful, man
while we're in the area, let's talk about the LIRR. riding at peak is straight ROBBERY. @desusnice failed to mention that the topic of gossip in Syosset is that the train be moving mad slow. cars was zooming past us...embarrassing! seats pretty comfy tho!!
still in NYC, let's talk about the M60-SBS from Harlem to LGA. she is truly that bitch. the other MTA girlies just don't have the range. shout out to the kind brother that helped me roll my luggage down Malcolm X.
now we're heading out of new york, so what better time to discuss @GreyhoundBus lines? greyhound stations are TERRIFYING. don't matter where u are, it's an absolute fact. once you're in the bus it's pretty chill, just methers and their small dogs. and free WIFI baybeeee
on that note we move on to @Orleans_Express, which is everything greyhound is not. cushy seats, the WIFI is speedy, everyone quietly reading french literature, and the station (gare du palais) is nice and filled with clean bathrooms and food/drink options. BON APPETIT
The @RTCQuebec smells EXACTLY like the 131 in Seattle. IYKYK, that smell is very distinct lmao. it's a run-of-the-mill system, i have no complaints. ugh, i miss the soothing sound of "PROCHAIN ARRET!"
as a public transportation lover, the STM was really fun; i don't know how to explain it, but it was very enjoyable. especially going into Westmount. the drivers were kind, patient, and the routes were right on schedule. i appreciate you @stminfo
next we have another limbs of the STM, le Métro de Montréal. it was nice, light on le boucan and time efficient. honestly, square victoria is my second home. routes are pretty linear, but I can see expansion going very well!
OMG, I'm not even halfway done. I really be on buses a lot lmao
The @SoundTransit Link is a very VERY impressive light rail system, and it does what is can with 21 miles. I could get into how dumb it was to pass on the opportunity for a 48 mile heavy rail (which is now the very inefficient MARTA rail), butttt we can't change the past, right?
The Seattle Monorail.........ummmm chile, anyway. You're best off walking, luv.
I never noticed the Seattle streetcars until like...6 months of living in Seattle. Y'all know how I feel about streetcars. Just buses on rails. And Seattleites are pretty good about riding buses, so idk if the streetcar (that's on time less than 50%) was needed. but ~aesthetics~
1) the 131 is WILD.
2) rapidride line C, baddest bitch. she will take you to Lincoln Park in the blink of an eye.
3) the 44 is a very big-brained route. all the fine zaddies ride the 44, i'm telling you.
The @metrolosangeles metrolink. it was a bit slow, & for almost $5 one-way, it was actually cheaper for me and my sister to uberpool back to my car after we'd taken the link into downtown LA. I guess the plus side is that it also pays for your metro ride, once you're in LA.
I can't speak too much about the LA metro rail, because I only took the red line (which is only 1 of their 2/6 heavy rail lines). It felt like a normal heavy rail system, nothing stood out about it. I rode it mid-day so it def wasn't crowded at all
The Oakland airport connector gets it's own post cause it's so cuuuuuute. slow as shit. but cute! also rapidly losing money...but cute!
the BART was just very overwhelming at times. in the mid-morning, it honestly wasn't that bad, but I honestly just stopped riding it and opted for walking/muni metro
this is the Muni Metro, for reference, haha.
Okayyyy, I'm tired!! I'll continue this thread sometime in the future!!
SO now we have the KC streetcar...jeez. Living downtown was unpleasant for a lot of reasons, the streetcar being one of em. no dedicated lane, slow as shit, and once there was entire piss puddle in a seat. Free thoooo 🤑
KC is actually moving to completely eliminate fares, in order to increase ridership. I believe it’d be wise AND just for other cities to have a similar aim.
i am throwing in these babies, cause I’m sentimental as hell, when it comes to my alma mater. the foolishness and pointless arguments with enemy dorms about what was too short of a ride to justify getting on the bus...memories 😌
I’ll finish this thread tomorrow, over and for all!
