Oh, hello! I didn't know you were here. I'm just about to begin the 4th installment of my #starwarsrewatch. Want to join me? A reminder: I'm viewing the series from least to most favored. For those just arriving, previous installments featured #AOTC, #ROTJ, & #ROTS. Tonight: #TPM
For all its well-documented flaws, I've got a soft spot for #TPM. A lot of that is the larger experience of waiting for TPM. The build-up, the rumors, the 1st trailer, 1st poster--all of that would become a familiar routine in the ensuing years, but it was never again like TPM.
The accents are beyond embarrassing, but otherwise, the Neimodians are great. I love the character design and the puppetry. I also like that they're a bunch of useful idiot cowards in over their heads.
The lightsaber going through the blast doors, molten chunks falling away. It blew my mind the first time I saw this. Part of what makes it so effectivce is the tactile quality of the effect. Always a strong point for SW SFX, but sadly less so in EPs 2 & 3.
My name is Steve and I like big Star Wars monsters. #starwarsrewatch #TPM
It's perverse how little Obi Wan has to do in this movie. Perverse. #starwarsrewatch #TPM
Trivia: TC-14 is voiced by Lindsay Duncan, who was great in the third season of @TheLeftoversHBO!
Trivia: The doomed Captain of the Republic Cruiser is played by Bronagh Gallagher, who also played Bernie in The Commitments!
One of the things that was so exciting about seeing #TPM for the first time was the mixture of familiar and new--that expansion of what one could think of as Star Wars. #starwarsrewatch
Real sets/location shooting! What a concept. After watching #AOTC and #ROTS, with all their increasing use of green screen, and even #ROTJ, whose sets feel strangely claustrophobic, this movie just feels more open and breezy.
The Battle Droids are great. I love everything about them. Even their stupid "roger-roger." Also, it's incredibly satisfying watching them get hacked to bits. #starwarsrewatch #TPM
