A few months ago I had the privilege of telling my daughter that she has what people call ADHD. That stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Personally, I don’t see it as a deficit or a disorder. I have it too. It is my superpower.
Yes, it can be difficult to control but most superpowers are. It lets me see the world from a unique point of view. It colors my work and my life in ways that help me stand out in a crowd. This is me. This is my daughter.
So I cried tears of joy, when I got to tell her that there was nothing wrong with her. There was something very right with her. I felt like Hagrid when he leaned down and whispered, “You’re a Wizard, Harry.” She is different. She is magic.
Last night, we got dressed up for a Harry Potter Daddy Daughter Dance. Of course, she goes outside the box. Among a multitude of Harry’s and Hermiones, one Hedwig, Harry’s owl. She is magic.
Can’t nobody tell her nothin’.
