Okay, a new project. I’m going to talk about once (ideally) a day about an album I’ve seen played in its entirety. New decade new reflections. Let’s go.
Lou Barlow - Brace The Wave

I saw Lou at Schuba’s as part of TNK 2016. One of the handful of album plays here that was not advertised prior to the show. He played the full record, plus a selection of Folk Implosion and Dino J stuff. A wonderful and intimate performance.
Helmet - Betty

This gig led to the craziest post-concert experience I’ve ever had. It involved Home Improvement, Garbage Paul Kids, hitchhikers and cocaine. Will not indulge on the TL but ask me off-line. Anyway, Helmet played this + an hour of hits and it was pummeling.
Joy Division / New Order - Substance

My second Peter Hook & The Light Show. While it wasn’t my favorite NO album play, Hook and his band absolutely ripped through the JD material. Hearing ‘Dead Souls’ live for the first time was unforgettable.
Bottomless Pit - Shade Perennial

One of the many in-store performances I saw at the great, sadly defunct Saki Records. A quintessential record release show, wherein the set contained the LP in sequence and nothing else. Super cool show.
Coheed And Cambria - Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV

My first Coheed show. I never got into em til Chassie played me their stuff, but I knew this one from when I was a kid and it didn’t do much then. The performance was great though and I definitely dig more of their stuff now.
Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom

Caught the second leg of The Imposters’ Imperial Bedroom anniversary tour a few years back. A tour de force of the entire Costello oeuvre, with each song from Bedroom sprinkled throughout. Perhaps my favorite of the three Elvis shows I’ve seen.
Have Mercy - The Earth Pushed Back

One of my favorite emo albums of the 2010s. I’ve seen Have Mercy at a sort of odd collection of shows, but this one was special. ‘The Gates’ has always been my favorite song of theirs and getting to hear it live was so cool.
Bauhaus - In The Flat Field

My number one concert of 2019. Performed by Peter Murphy and David J, plus a second set of cuts from all across the Bauhaus catalogue. If that wasn’t amazing enough, the Chicago date was in a giant university church. Unforgettable. Undead.
Willis Earl Beal - Turn

At a free Monday at Empty Bottle, Willis Earl Beal surprised the crowd by playing his upcoming album front to back. He also asked everyone to sit down during it, which actually ended up being a very meditative experience.
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

My number one pick from this past year’s Riot Fest. One of the few times I can recall a band playing the album in opposite order. I think this was the right move for this album, considering the most explosive tracks ended up closing the set in a fervor.
