A thread for baby ARMY (and anyone who needs it). How to keep your twitter stanning experience / comeback time stress and anxiety free. Do not follow (or mute accounts if you don’t want to break a mutual) who do the below:
1) Mantis. Otherwise known as Manager ARMY (renamed antis because they are). These people will talk about how much they love BTS, but they aren’t able to reach their full potential or live by their ideals because Bighit doesn’t promote them correctly.
They’ll take something helpful every ARMY would like and turn it into a crusade by trying to involve the press. They’ll talk about member contracts, member health issues, etc. as if they are their lawyers and their doctors.
An entertainment company is a business and BTS are all grown adults who are vocal on many subjects publicly and not. We stan BTS, not the company and we TRUST BTS. Avoid accounts who act like they’re their managers.
They will be louder around comeback about the many many things they believe Bighit is doing wrong with the promotions.
2) Solo stans. It seems harmless to just follow the chart account of your bias, right? Streaming numbers, brand reputation, line distribution. What’s the harm in that?
These accounts very frequently (very frequently) have side accounts where they trash other BTS members. They flock their faves articles and compete with each other while ignoring group articles. They run ads for solo songs during group comebacks.
And most of all, they attack fanbases and translators over any perceived slight to their fave and ignore any clarifications. They will make you think all the members hate your bias and Bighit is constantly neglecting them.
They WILL be louder during comeback. They will break down specific songs to tell the exact number of seconds their particular fave has a song, the number of seconds in the MV, their album contribution. They do NOT view BTS as the team they really are.
3) Multis that want kpop fan validation. There are lots of multis (for baby ARMY that means fans that stan multiple kpop groups) that 100% want BTS to have the world, believe they deserve everything and support ARMY.
And then there are the “buts”. “I’m an ARMY, but” so and so group deserves it more, ARMY are toxic, what’s wrong with voting against BTS, etc. etc. When you see ARMY complaining about multis, THIS is who we mean.
These people will make you feel terrible for saying good things about BTS and terrible for believing ARMY is a good fandom that does a lot of wonderful things for charity, by fighting for a fair music industry and just being good people.
They WILL be loud during comeback, about how this album doesn’t live up to the album 3 albums ago. How they want the old BTS back. How ARMY is annoying for taking up all the worlds hashtags for days. Avoid them.
4) Fansites. What’s a fansite? The people who go to BTS events and take all those HD photos. You will see beautiful pictures on your TL and be tempted to follow the accounts posting them.
There are absolutely fansites that just stick to following official schedules and aren’t rude to other fans. And it’s impossible to know who they are. You will be betrayed over and over again by someone you thought was fine if you follow these accounts.
Unfortunately, too many of them follow on private schedules, are rude to other fans at events, and sometimes don’t even stan (fansites make money selling those HD photos and other fan goods).
They WILL be more active during comeback as they follow BTS on their schedules and post all those HD pics. Just block them all and you won’t have to see the drama when the next expose and blacklist inevitably happens.
5) Me. No, seriously. I don’t consider sh00ters problematic accounts (I am one, after all). But we fight the fan wars. If the arguments cause you anxiety or stress, no matter how funny or right you may think we are, you don’t need to follow it.
I’m a sh00ter because I’ve seen too many times small lies by antis go unchallenged and turn into massive ones. I like arguing (I’m not great at stopping arguing tbh). It doesn’t stress me out to fight for BTS and ARMY.
You can avoid the fan wars by just not following the people who engage in them. Antis WILL be more active during comeback and if it stresses you out, don’t follow the people fighting them.
Adding this, as it’s a very good point. There will also be antis cosplaying and attempting to lead you to do things harmful to BTS and ARMY. Take this advice: https://twitter.com/McFlat29/status/1214957429747847169
