here’s what we’re not going to do:

make our first big screen female protagonist a vessel to carry a dead man’s baby because it’s impossible to cope with his (not-so-shocking) death apparently. #StarWars #Rey
a lot of people complain that certain aspects of the fandom infantilize #Rey (and to a degree, some do). the main argument behind this is that it eliminates her right to choose.

does anyone see the hypocrisy in this? by doing this, I mean?
like, I agree that her having a child wouldn’t weaken her character or anything, just like her having love wouldn’t either — it certainly doesn’t weaken it; Rey chooses love and family.

I just ask that we consider not making the arguments that she should get the right to choose
and five seconds later, demand that she carry a baby she had no consent to. She didn’t ask for it. She was unconscious, on the brink of death, mind you.
overall, it’s not the proper message to send to anybody. IF Rey did have a child, it should be ON HER TERMS, which is the kind of message of hope Disney and LF strive for.

Allow choice, friends.
Bringing this thread back because of the amount of sexism I’ve seen lately.

People still choose to complain about others infantilizing Rey because she “didn’t get a romantic love and have babies” when her arc was about discovering family and belonging.
Family goes beyond bloodlines and marriage; it’s who you choose to inspire you and light your way. Rey did precisely that.

She chose Finn. She chose Poe, Han, Luke and Leia. And in turn, they chose her. They are family.
She chose not to let her bloodline define her or her choices. Same goes for Finn.

On the contrary, Kylo chose to let it happen to him and it consumed him. As a result, he tried to get others, mainly Rey, to feel the same.
To him, she was nothing so she’s worthless to everyone. But, oh, wait! He learns she stemmed from the Palpatine bloodline, so he tried convincing her she’s doomed to fall to the dark side like he was because, guess what, the bloodline says so!

His words, not mine.
So, in conclusion, by saying Rey is “Just Rey because how dare she choose a last name” is, in my opinion, infantilizing her. The ST was never about where you came from (or lack of origin), it’s about where you end up (which is hopefully looking to the horizon).
