This whole thread aligns with my theory that men lose their minds at and beyond the third Jupiter return which occurs at about 35/36. https://twitter.com/FirstGentleman/status/1214632873023533056
It’s almost like their capacity to engage in institutions and spaces that support a communal identity disappears until that 4th Jupiter return. Then they’re craving the sense of belonging they missed out on, but don’t possess the tools to participate.
Jupiter returns at 11/12, 23/24, 35/36 are critical to identity formation. They are major points of integrating past experiences. I believe it’s critical to have a Jupiterian figure to guide you through those transitions. A teacher, mentor, clergy member, or therapist, etc.
This is not an intentional thing that men do, nor is it their fault. Western society hasn’t made a place for men to engage in community outside of the nuclear family structure. So, men get isolated and cut out of communal spaces without children or wives to involve them.
Their friends who are married get wrapped up in their family units. Meanwhile single and childless men are cast out. They look for fulfillment through power grabs in the work place or through sexual exploits that further isolate them from the belonging they crave.
Men also believe they have more time than they actually do. Women who want children are up against their biological clock.
This is 1 if the many ways that oppressive cultures of masculinity hurt men. We have these pejorative terms that demonize & isolate childless & unmarried men. The crazy/creepy/perverted uncle archetype shames men for wanting to be in community w/o having children or being married
We infantilize men this way, keeping them from the work of maturation.
Relationships of all kinds are the key to emotional regulation. Not to say that married men are more emotionally mature. And of course, not all marriages (read: committed partnerships of every orientation) are equal...
