All you suckers who are dieting in 2020 are missing out. My NY resolution is to bake more. So I’m starting with this https://smittenkitchen.com/2015/10/salted-peanut-butter-cookies/ and this https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/salted-butter-and-chocolate-chunk-shortbread. If you wanna break your resolutions you should come to my party tomorrow.

I guess I like my recipes to start with the word “salted” but honestly who doesn’t??
It’s Bake day in my house! Blueberry cornmeal butter cake is in the oven as we speak! I’ve only been to the gym once in 2020 but I’ve baked twice

What’s your workhorse kitchen tool that no one else seems to care about owning? Mine is a pastry cutter! “Mash in the butter with a fork” says @smittenkitchen. Pshaw.... that’s what pastry cutters are for!
Week 3: bread week

Week 4! I’m on the road (visiting fam in New Mexico) but still keeping up with my goal to bake every week! My niece helped me bake dreamy cream scones with cranberries and orange zest!

It’s officially February and despite jet lag, I’m keeping up my NY resolution (sorta) by “baking” granola. It’s my resolution, I get to decide what counts, OK
This week I baked sticky cocoa banana bars, which was a fun easy recipe. I can’t taste them yet though so I’ll keep you posted! https://food52.com/recipes/82357-best-banana-bars-recipe?affil=cj&utm_source=cj&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=Food52.com&company=Joanna+Goddard%2C+Inc.&website=5347837&cjevent=30eb4b22408811ea822702410a1c0e0d
So for this week’s bake, I hosted an Iraqi baking class courtesy of @jopanese taught by Lina & Rasha of Local Abundance Kitchen! I feel like I hardly did any baking but I did a lot of eating!
Cheese & spinach pies
Cardamom rosewater pudding with pistachios
Baklava

This week I wasn’t really feeling the baking but when I asked this website for suggestions @Pedestrianism suggested cast iron skillet pizza and that sounded just right!!
This week I baked these, so I’ll drop em in this thread https://twitter.com/katewarrencle/status/1232837880399192067?s=21 https://twitter.com/KateWarrenCLE/status/1232837880399192067
But also, I just baked this grapefruit olive oil pound cake from @smittenkitchen cookbook. It looks heavenly (the icing is the faintest color of blush) but unfortunately I have to wait until later to cut into it!

A reflection 2 months into the year of baking every week. Baking always feels like a production to me & sometimes it is but just like anything, if you adjust the rhythm of your life & make room for something, it’s not really that hard to find the time. It feels like a practice.
Wow I just had the nerdiest idea to start tracking my bakes in a spreadsheet so I can make different charts at the end of the year. A PIE chart of how many of my bakes were cookies, pies, cakes, breads, etc..... don’t worry y’all. I’m doing it.
Who do you suppose will be the lucky recipients of these scones? Hmmmmm... who could it beeeeee? Ps catch me on insta stories sharing some scone-related drama and intrigue!!
In what feels like the longest week ever, I’m obviously still baking strong. Honestly baking every week this year sort of feels like I’ve trained for social distancing. Today, sourdough. https://twitter.com/katewarrencle/status/1239209120441544710?s=21 https://twitter.com/KateWarrenCLE/status/1239209120441544710
Also today, gluten free confetti cookies ( @smittenkitchen recipe, I just subbed 1-for-1 GF flour). For my roomie who is GF and always has to smell my bakes. Also, we just needed some fun!

We’ve arrived at week 12 of baking! Today I made more sourdough. No time like the present to home my sourdough skills! Both loaves turned out beautiful this week!

Also earlier this week I made “blender muffins” and I’m planning to make more tonight. They’re GF and not super photogenic or hip, but they are pretty healthy little snacks to have around the house and they were simple. https://www.wellplated.com/banana-oatmeal-muffins/
Getting caught up on this thread! Last week was just more sourdough. Which went great with my posole.
This is week 14! And I baked chocolate raspberry rugelach (from @smittenkitchen’s cookbook) earlier in the week. The only thing I did wrong was give most of it away. I should have eaten more of it.
