✨ 2020 reading thread ✨
first book of the year!

i read death prefers blondes in 2019 and immediately fell in love with roehrig's writing, so i'm super excited for this one
ahhhhhhh i loved this book. it's dark and twisted and awful but also so cute and uplifting?? it's A Lot and i couldn't get enough. would definitely recommend if you like murder mysteries and wholesome coming-of-age queer stuff
reading book 2 on my train home from london
finished book 2 on the train home from london. we love graphic novels making us feel like we can read books faster

this was pretty cute though. i love a graphic novel with a two-tone colour scheme. and it was sweet and full of queers, so like, what more can you ask for
i feel like i've had book 3 for a billion years and it's just one of those books i never got around to reading

hopefully the wait will have been worth it
this book gave me a headache in the best possible way. if you want to be emotionally crushed and cry a bunch: highly recommend
i saw book 4 mentioned a lot last year, especially on author twitter, so hopefully it'll live up to that hype
i'm always wary of books with lots of awards or hype. they're often ones on the more pretentious end of the scale

this was not that at all. i am in love. i have been crying for like half an hour. i might not even stop crying now. i love this book. i need the sequel. and a tissue
book 5!! i've been pretty excited about this one since it was released, because i'm weirdly into books about HIV stuff. glad i've finally got around to it
i hated this book and i have never been more disappointed or angry in my life. there is an extremely long and spoiler-filled review on my goodreads page if you want to read that. i'm so mad and sad
i'm picking book 6 bc i let y'all vote on the last one and you let me down

this is also a book i've been very excited for and none of y'all ever vote for it in my polls. i'm taking back my power. hopefully this is not a huge mistake on my part
turns out i'm good at picking books. i really really loved this. it's all the things it's trying to be really well. and it's none of the negative things it could so easily turn into. i'm just really, genuinely so pleased that i read this
book 7 is the first i don't have a physical copy of, because... they don't exist. i've had this forever and i'm pretty sure it's a free-to-read download. it's only a short little novella but i absolutely adore alva's full length novels so i'm excited
this was wholesome and it made my heart feel things. i love it when authors i really enjoy put out stories i can enjoy for free
started book 8 yesterday. this is one i've been intrigued by for ages, i mean. LOOK AT IT. also since i've already started it i just noticed something significant about the cover hUH this book is cool
shit, lads. this book was fUCKING GOOD. like. to the point where i'm nervous about whatever i read next not being able to live up to the standard it's set. so uhhhh. safe to say i enjoyed it. and it dOESN'T EVEN HAVE A QUEER MAIN CHARACTER WHO AM I ANYMORE???
wasn't kidding about those next-book-nerves, so i'm gonna make book 9 a book by one of my true constants. he's never let me down before, even when i've been unsure on the subject matter, and this is especially out of my comfort zone. but klune is one of my trusted go-tos so...
ahhhh i loved this so much?? it's Very Different to what i usually read, but klune has such a distinctive and compelling writing style that i absolutely cannot get enough of. i love this book and all of the murder children it provided me (aND it has a sequel so guess what's next)
if you're surprised by book 10... i don't know what to tell you
didn't enjoy the plot of this one as much as the first book, but i still absolutely love and adore the characters and the storytelling and i'm very sad this series got cut off prematurely because i would have liked to see it come to its full conclusion
... that said, those last two books were heavy as fuck. very murdery and emotionally taxing. i'm hoping book 11 is essentially the complete antithesis of that because i think i need a break from cannibalism
this book. started out AWFUL. i hated the first few chapters with a passion. once it got into the swing of it a little i started to actually enjoy it, but it's a very basic fake dating story with no real deviations from expectation. it was essentially... fine
picked book 12 bc it's a relatively short book that i can hopefully finish before i go away on friday (and then i won't have to pack it)
haha oops, i uh, finished it before i finished wednesday, which... wasn't exactly in the plan? i just had a really good time reading this. it was very sweet. the ending was exceptionally rushed, but apart from that i had a great time
book 13 is also v short for the same reason as the last one. hopefully i can read it all tomorrow so i don't have to take it to birmingham
i. didn't like this. it was basically a book of boring dialogue between two characters who didn't have any individual personality or chemistry between them. there was ace rep but it was mostly just moaning about asexuality being difficult
deleted a tweet from this thread because i didn't read at all on my trip and i will save the ebook for later. instead, book 14 is going to be this wHOLESOME LITTLE THING that arrived today and i'm so excited for
oops i finished it i love graphic novels making my reading habits look more impressive

but srsly tho this book is PRECIOUS and also important??? i love nick and charlie forever and ever and ever
i bought book 15 when i was in london!! i'd seen it on goodreads and wasn't that interested, but flicking through a physical copy in the shop made me realise some of the short stories are based on his other books, literally all of which i've read. so uhh i'm excited
this was cute! i'm not big on short stories or poetry generally, but i've always liked levithan so i enjoyed this enough. if you're looking for soft queer short stories i'd recommend it
i've had book 16 literally foREVER and i recall nothing about it tbh. i don't like spoilers so i'm not going to reread the blurb or summary before i start, i'm just gonna go and hope it's great
ugh it was not great, which was disappointing because it has a really interesting premise. would love to see this book written by a more competent author (/one who knows that anal requires uhhh literally any preparation). there's a very long review on my goodreads if you want it
going to FINALLY read remy cameron for book 17. i don't know why i've been putting this off for so long because i enjoyed julian winters' debut a lot and i've had this book on my radar since before it even came out. oh well, at least i'm here now; better late than never
ehhh this book was fine. i enjoyed the romance a lot, but one of the problems i had with his first book is that there's just TOO MUCH crammed into not enough pages. it's cute, but needs work
book 18!! i'm actually super excited for this one bc i've loved every single thing i've ever read by oseman

AND i'm hopefully meeting her next month to have her sign all the books by her that i own so i should probably have actually read them all before then
S C R E A M S

I LOVE HER SO MUCH I LOVE THIS BOOK EVERYONE SHOULD READ EVERYTHING ALICE OSEMAN HAS EVER WRITTEN BECAUSE SHE IS A SEVERELY UNDERRATED GEM AND DESERVES THE ENTIRE WORLD GODDAMN IT
gonna read another sara alva short for book 19 because tHEY'RE CUTE AND I CAN
it was cute! not my favourite of hers but it was fine and free so i have nothing to complain about really
book 20! i've had this for a while but i'm always wary about reading fandom-related books so i've been avoiding it a little. but honestly with the exception of fangirl i've been pleasantly surprised with all the books set in fandom that i've read so... here we go
hhhHHHHHHH OKAY SO. this book was an offensive portrayal of fandom communities and fans and actors and conventions and honestly i'm very angry and it might be my least favourite book i've ever read because it genuinely offended me that much. do not read this book it is awful
book 21. alice oseman's first/worst book (according to most goodreads reviewers). but you know what? even alice oseman's worst book is going to be 500x better than the fucking garbage i just finished, so i'm excited
this was?? so good?? what are people even talking about. i am in love with alice oseman and she is physically incapable of making anything less than perfect
gonna read this for book 22. i was very excited about it and literally preordered it before it came out, and now i have zero recollection of what it's about, which is honestly my favourite way to consume new content so i'm ready
huh. this book was very boring for more than the first half. then i started to enjoy it. so i don't really know how to review it. it gets better but god does it take a long time to get there
book 23 is something i'm ACTUALLY hyped about

this book is technically out now but i have an ARC because lucy is the best person in the universe

i love klune and all his books and i am ready to be spellbound by this one too. bring it on
this book is a love letter to people who are different

it's beautiful

i have a lot of feelings
i SHOULD pace myself on klune books because they're so good that they leave me disappointed in almost anything else

but whatever shut up book 24 is also klune because i have an arc so i can read it before you ha ha ha ha
ugh i just. we are blessed by tj klune. we do not deserve him and yet here he is filling our hearts with joy and pain. i love him
book 25! i've had this for ages and don't remember the synopsis so let's go baybeeee
this was boring. it was a lot of racism and a lot of the main character talking about racism and then she had some relationship drama

it's written by an asian person so it's like. calling attention to racism rather than being a racist book but gOD it was so boring and weird
gonna read this for book 26

is it a halloween book? yes
is it currently march? also yes

honestly it's quarantine time and there's no such thing as holidays anymore so let me read my cute halloween graphic novel in spring leave me alone
this was wholesome and sweet!! honestly graphic novels are just so cute that it's hard not to enjoy them
book 27 is gonna be one of matt's sexy books because honestly what better time to read a sexy book than when you're trapped at home for an indeterminate period of time
i really enjoyed this! y'all know i love me some kinky shit and kinky shit where the smaller partner is often the dominant? FUCK. i need more of this in my life
book 28 is a reread. i read this in 2013 (david levithan was truly my spiritual awakening when it came to queer literature), but earlier this year i read a short story he wrote based on this and it made me really want to read it again. so here we are
it has been seven years and this book is still a masterpiece

everyone should read it
book 29. i have no idea when i bought this but it has good reviews and i am in the mood for a murder mystery so? sure! also my cat hates me
this book has the most boring, basic cover in the entire universe. that does not at all represent the content, which is absolutely fantastic. i loved this book from start to finish, i just wish it was marketed differently because wow it does not look interesting in the slightest
book 30. i've had this since the day it came out. i preordered it. i got a cute signed thing from the author... and then i never read it. that was like a year ago. so now is the time i guess?
ugh this was. not good. i wanted this book to be good. i wanted it to be good so much. but it was boring and nothing happened and no one did anything and it was a waste of my time and i am disappointed
book 31 is one i borrowed from my wonderful friend miriam mere days before quarantine started. it's not my usual kind of read but it's written by the writer of my favourite tv show ever so i have to give it a shot. i've been promised it's at least a tiny bit queer
i actually enjoyed this a lot!! rbw is very good at taking the human condition and converting it into absurdist humour. and now i just want to rewatch bojack. i'm gonna do that
my order arrived!! so guess what book 32 is!!
i love caleb's books a lot tbh. this was fun (well, as fun as a murder mystery gets). i enjoyed the cast of characters and the relationships between them. it's good he's a good egg
book 33! look how fucking beautiful this cover is holy shit. am i allowed to be gay for this model she's not like 16 is she
this was fine. i wasn't really the target audience, so like, it's hard to judge. i enjoyed it enough but whatever
you don't get to vote this time this is book 34. it's a gay retelling of grease and i don't think you understand the power those words have over me. i'm so excited for this
I LOVED THIS. SO MUCH. it's got all the magnificent parts of grease whilst also combating so much of its outdated garbage. GAH. i have a lot of feelings and i enjoyed this a lot and ahhhhhhhhhhhh thank you
deleted a book from this thread. we don't talk about it. i forgot how to read for a month but i'm BACK and book 35 looks Wholesome
