A thread for movies I've watched in 2020 πŸŽ₯
All ratings are out of 5 and I am including rewatches!
The Great Gatsby (2013) 🍸
β˜†β˜†β˜† 3/5
Overall an enjoyable movie and I like the concept, but the way it was modernised with the music was... eh. maybe I just find Baz Luhrmann's style cringy in general.
The Jungle Book (1967) 🌴 (rewatch?)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
Like a lot of disney animations, it really is a product of it's time... past that though it's a fun movie and obviously a classic.
Mary, Queen of Scotts (2018) πŸ‘‘
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
A solid movie with everything I need out of a good period drama.
Boy (2010) πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
A big fave of mine and honestly a kiwi classic. Absolutely iconic and I love how it depicts the way gang culture was unfortunately so intertwined with small town Māori culture in the 80's.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) πŸ— (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
Yet another big fave. deserved the hype it got. also a kiwi classic despite being less than 4 years old.
WALL-E (2008) 🌱 (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
Dude this movie is criminally underrated and 10 year old me really didn't get how good it is. The fact that someone had to pitch this movie about how capitalism is gonna ruin us to the worlds biggest capitalist? iconic.
Power Rangers (2017) πŸ’₯
β˜†β˜†β˜† 3/5
The only word I have to describe this movie is.......... eh.
Us (2019) πŸ‘πŸΎ
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
I was really about to stop half way through bc I forgot how much I hate scary movies but it was honestly brilliant. Would have been better if I didn't know the twist before I watched it.
Crazy Rich Asians (2018) πŸ’Έ
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
A fun movie, definitely refreshing that there were only two speaking white characters and they were both fully forgettable.
A Simple Favour (2018) 🍸
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
Pretty solid. Naked Blake Lively is always a bonus.
Moana (2016) 🌊 (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
I love this movie so much and I still sometimes always cry while watching it.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) 🎬
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
a solid entertaining movie. I did get confused at points but that may just be because I'm a dumbass.
My Neighbor Totoro (1988) β˜‚οΈ (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 5/5
Idk what else to say except that it's basically a whole shit post in a movie that makes me cry every time I watch it.
Your Name. (2016) β˜„
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
some damn cute shit right there. got some tears going lmao
Princess Mononoke (1997) 🐺
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† 4/5
This is honestly such a good movie, it's such a change from the idea that animated movies have to be humorous and fully child friendly to be good.
The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) πŸ§β€β™‚οΈ (rewatch)
I've barely watched any movies recently lmao but we're back into it with a rewatch of my favourite series of all time
Ant-Man (2015) 🐜 (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† (5/5)
I love the more light hearted marvel movies like this. big fave.
Howl's Moving Castle (2004) πŸ”₯ (rewatch)
β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜† (5/5)
kinda forgot about this thread so there's a few movies missing lmao but here's a rewatch of a big fave for today
