Every time I think about Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian's relationship I wanna rip off my whole fucking face because very few fiction work have depict such intense, deep, unconditional fraternal love as MDZS have, specially between these two.
And that's why their falling out hurts so much. Because we just know, we fucking KNOW how much they love each other, but their environment wasn't kind to them. Yanli was their ground, their only anchor in an otherwise world that insisted in pinning them against each other.
When she was gone, they only had themselves to figure out things - at such an early age, they took things for granted and lost them one by one. They weren't ready. It was so much easier to blame others instead of talking. They were never good at talking, that was Yanli's role.
But even after 13 years, they still care for each other. So deeply that while Jiang Cheng wants to vent his pent up frustrations and losses and make Wei Wuxian understand him for once, Wei Wuxian wants to leave him alone because he knows he's an eyesore for Jiang Cheng.
They were never good at talking things out. Even at the very end. And that's why it's so frustrating for us - we all yell 'just fucking talk!!' but they were never good at it. There's too many open wounds and too little actual Dealing With Feelings for it to work how we want to.
But it's undeniable that they still care. If they didn't, literally nothing would happen. Jiang Cheng wouldn't chase Wei Wuxian, and Wei Wuxian wouldn't try to hide from him.
They're just broken. It's just that Too Much happened. It's not because they don't love each other.
