Okay. Confession time. I used to hate the SNP.

There was a little knot of anger, low down in my stomach. When I would hear SNP, I would hear broad Scottish accents on TV, I would see "Yes" indy stickers on cars... It set off an unconscious cascade of fire in me.

1/
The mere mention of independence got my pulse racing. I was ready to shout and dismiss it all as propaganda. I knew then, in my heart, and in that fire in my belly, that Scotland was absolutely nothing without the UK.

2/
It was a gentle accumulation of accidents (moving house without a TV cable) and political disasters (Brexit voted for by England) that I slowly began to change my view of Scotland.

3/
Previously, I had no understanding of Scotland's place in the UK until it slapped me on the face. It was the morning after Brexit vote. I realised then and there, that Scotland is not an equal partner.

4/
I've since learned that Scotland has FANTASTIC industries in renewables (and a trained workforce of offshore engineers), fish farming, digital services, video games, chemical sciences, life sciences, financial services. Most striking of all, I learned..

5/
Scotland is the most educated country in Europe. And I realised, that all the distain I had for Scotland, was all fed to me by the #SNPBad #TooPoor #TooStupid mantra the mainstream media pushes out.

6/
I've learned about the value of the oil, the mismanagement of that value by Westminster.

How can the union be defended when its making oil-rich Scotland require food banks?

How can the union be declared equal when Scotland is jeered at in Westminster?

7/
Scotland is nothing more than a colony at current.

We cant elect any PM with only 9% of the seats.

We are big enough, rich enough, clever enough. We are ready.

Sorry I ever doubted you Scotland. I'm here and I'm ready now. I can also say, with pride, I joined the SNP.
