The truth about Britney Spears including her abusive childhood, conservatorship, manipulation, sabotage and the #FreeBritney movement: a thread
Disclaimer: none of the content or evidence in this thread belongs to me and is based on online sources, allegations, and speculation.
Britney Jean Spears was born to parents James & Lynne Spears. She has two siblings; Bryan & Jamie Lynn Spears.
Britney started attending dance lessons as early as age three in Louisiana and made her stage debut at age five at her kindergarten graduation.

Over the years Britney won many state-level competitions and talent shows so she traveled to Atlanta with her mother for an audition.
She was rejected because she was too young but they were referenced to a talent agent who was surprised by Britney's singing and enrolled her in a professional performing arts school in New York.

Years later, she landed her first lead role in a musical.
In 1997, Britney was rejected by three record labels as they claimed there was never going to be another Madonna or another Tiffany.

Two weeks later, another label got in contact with her after hearing her sing “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston and signed her.
Growing up, she experienced excessive childhood trauma as her parents would constantly fight and her father was an alcoholic.

Britney would often seek refuge at her aunt's home and it got to the point where Britney's nerves were mistaken for excitement, etc.
When her parents divorced in 2002, Britney told People magazine that made her happy and that it was the “best thing to ever happen to her family.”

As her career built, Britney experienced low self-esteem and body image issues, and she felt pressure to please everyone.
In 2000, it was revealed via Rolling Stone that Britney was extremely overworked as she only had one hour a day to herself in her schedule.

Britney would also sometimes not want to perform and was constantly manipulated and forced out of her trailer by her team.
It is also said that her label were so controlling that they would even pick out her underwear and lip-gloss to keep her image the way they wanted it to be.

A close friend said they would bribe her friends to convince her into performing by offering them a shopping spree.
All this affected her mental health and eventually led to the infamous Britney Spears meltdown in 2007.

In February 2007, Britney checked into a drug rehab facility but left in less than a day. The following night she shaved her hair with electric clippers at an LA hair salon.
Britney lost control and in October of the same year, she lost custody of her two children to her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
After all the events of her public meltdown, in 2008 her father was granted the temporary then permanent conservatorship of Britney.
Since then her father has had full control of her and earlier this year, it was reported that she was being held at a mental facility against her will.

She cancelled her residency early this year and disappeared from the public for months.
Her father having full control of her conservatorship means she can’t make her own decisions legally or in her daily life, as well as financially.

NOTE: She also can’t freely vote, get married, pregnant, or drive a car by herself in addition to many other restrictions.
It was reported that Britney was cancelling her DOMINATION Vegas residency due to her father's health issues and would go through two surgeries— one in January and one in March.

In March amidst Britney's disappearance from the public, he was photographed at an event.
In April it was reported that Britney had checked herself in to a mental institution due to the mental problems her father's illness had caused her which is around the time the Free Britney movement launched.
A podcast then surfaced with information that confirmed Britney was being held in a mental facility against her will.

This was the start of the #FreeBritney movement.
Once the movement went viral and everyone was supporting it, what added fuel to it was the fact that Britney’s mother, Lynne Spears, was liking Instagram comments supporting claims that Britney was in fact being held at a mental facility against her will.
A voicemail from 2009 that Britney left a lawyer trying to get out of her conservatorship surfaced online.
Upon the release of her latest ninth album “Glory” in 2016, Britney talked about her conservatorship and how she really loved this album because she hadn’t been able to make her own music decisions in years due to this conservatorship.
This part of the interview was never aired for obvious reasons but several audience members confirmed it.
In the months Britney disappeared earlier this year, the original never released video for 2016 Glory lead-single “Make Me” mysteriously leaked online after three years.
The video director, David LaChapelle spoke out; said he found it strange that the video leaked while Britney was away and said that while filming the video, he and his team were concerned for her.

The only direction Britney gave him for this video was to be locked in a cage.
The director also added that Britney told him she wanted to die in the video and he went on to say that he’s known Britney since early in her career and even back then, he could tell something wasn’t normal.

In February 2008, Britney attempted to hire a lawyer to fight her father's conservatorship and had to use the help of a paparazzi friend because her father would monitor all her calls and said:

“I want my life back. I want to drive my car. I want to live in my house alone.”
This might also not be anything concrete but the judge who ruled the conservatorship to be permanent has been accused of corruption and has highly negative feedback.
In 2012, Britney's boyfriend at the time Jason Trawick turns into her co-conservator, ruled out by the same judge despite abusive allegations against him and at a hearing where Britney wasn’t even present.
In 2015, it was revealed that Britney's father had requested revenue from her Las Vegas residency and was making $130k per year for managing her life on the conservatorship.
In addition, the lawyer Britney tried to hire to fight the conservatorship claimed that her civil rights were definitely violated.
Britney's mother, Lynne also revealed her daughter had been given drugs on and off for many years, allegedly even by her own team.
Earlier this year, Britney's psychiatrist suddenly and mysteriously passed away before he could attend court for her conservatorship.

Her long-time co-conservator Andrew Wallet also resigned working with her anymore earlier this year, after requesting a raise in 2018.
In official court documents, it was revealed that her conservatorship is seen more as a “hybrid business model” than literally her life and human rights.
Another video director that worked with Britney spoke out saying that she was controlled and was sad throughout the shoot and claims she even tried asking him for help at one point but was stopped by her bodyguard.
