Sorry to break brand here, but I believe that this famous 1911 mugshot of young Stalin below is fake, and is just a lookalike to get Stalin to look like a "dashing rogue" in his youth. While this picture being of Stalin is believable, evidence has been found against it.

Here are a few mugshots of him from 1910, one year before the famous photo was taken. Not only does Stalin not look like the guy in the picture, you can see potmarks from his smallpox.

Here is another collection of documents and mugshots of Stalin from 1911. Here, he has much different facial hair and head shape, with a thick moustache and nothing else. These pictures look much more like the older Stalin we know.

I hypothesize that the alleged mugshot of Stalin was picked out as a lookalike/heavily edited to make him look like a charming, Robin Hood-esque rogue, as he robbed banks when he was young. This may have been to further his cult of personality.
