At best you’re a bot. A marketing machine that peddles what brands tell you to. You have no influence.

You claim that you can change people’s behaviour. You charge exorbitantly based on that claim. So if you don’t use this power for the truth, what even is the point? Influence doesn’t just mean having followers. It also means taking some goddamn responsibility.

Social media is powerful. So before you demonise it by saying there is too much negativity out there and you want no part of it, remember that social media made you. Do you not understand the immense potential that being an independent professional brings you?

You can’t get fired from your job because of your opinions. You don’t risk sexual harassment from your boss because he didn’t like what you said. Do you not understand you can speak your mind like no one else can? Isn’t that why you chose the internet as your workplace?

Ten years ago when I started blogging I knew the power of words. Of opinions. It saddens me that I don’t want to call myself a part of this community anymore. These are not my people. This is not the community that changed the face of the internet.

You don’t think like that before you endorse a fairness product or a slimming tea do you? Isn’t that misleading? Now suddenly you want to seem responsible because you don’t want to take the pains to educate yourself enough to form an opinion?

You’re supposed to be the voice of the youth, aren’t you? You dare call yourself a celebrity because a bunch of young adults emulate you and buy the shit you recommend. Disheartening that you lose your voice when it matters the most.

Your regular campaigns and content can still continue while you use your voice. Just like the rest of the world is still going to work while trying their best to be a part of the change. Revolutions aren’t comfortable. You have to make an effort.

Genuinely starting to believe the ones who are silent are okay with whatever is happening. There is no other reason ki tumhara khoon nahi khaul raha.
