I’ve said my bit about “I can’t vote so please go vote & stop the Tories” already. But my reasons are that this election is far more important than just Brexit. It’s a battle for the NHS. I am American, hence why I can’t vote (yet). I have been to a GP once to register.
Growing up in America I was on my mother’s health insurance, but when I turned 19 I fell off it and I quickly realised how scary the American Healthcare System is. I saw my mother crumble in debt from medical bills (even with insurance) & I was terrified of going to the doctor.
A fear that still exists in me today. I am a Permanent Resident in the UK now and I am entitled to use the NHS, but due to my fear of the American Healthcare system, I don’t use it when I need it. I’ve forgone treatment for illness & ailments for a while due to fear.
Basically I know this won’t get much traction, because more prominent Americans in UK like @robdelaney are sharing the same sentiments, but I think it’s important to know how special the NHS is. Don’t lose it to the Tories! Don’t let them sell it to Trump! It’s so precious.
