you know what? fuck it....wicks thread

this is my oc wicks, i love him and i talk about him a lot so get ready for an actual explanation

first off, he's an inventor. he appears in several different stories of mine, but all of them take place in a low-tech medieval fantasy world, the details of which vary by canon

this is important bc that makes him an outcast, especially in a world with magic. his machines/the things he builds are seen as useless because magic can do the same thing but better (?)

because of this, he's very resentful of magic and magic users, especially at the beginning of the story (i'm going to treat all the stories as one for the purpose of this thread, since his arc is pretty much the same in all of them)

but lo and behold! character development! by meeting such magic users and getting to know them (and falling in love with one of them, yes that happens in all the stories), he overcomes his bias and is a better person for it

in terms of canon-specific things, the one he originated from is called a girl's guide to rpgs, and is pretty much dead bc it sucks. in it, he was a party member with a crush on the protagonist, who he kind of idealizes in his head

over time, he realizes it's not going to work with her (i never decided whether i wanted to include an actual rejection scene or just have him grow out of it, probably the latter) and dates lariel, the other main party member. she's a mage, but by then he knows she's a person

another canon for him is a game i'm making called festivoux, where he enters a smith's festival/tournament. craftsman of all kinds enter coming in with absolutely nothing, and have to gather resources/make truces in order to succeed in battles against each other

last year's winner was a wizard named corbin (the love interest for him in this canon, yes he's bi he just has a lot of internalized biphobia that prevents him from seeking out guys). this frustrates him enough that he enters as a tinker, and ends up winning bc it's a video game

but as he forms truces with other characters, he also learns to overcome his magic bias, as mentioned before

the last wicks canon is more experimental, a comic idea i called starlight watch. it starts the same way as most of them do, with wicks leaving his hometown of mages to sell his inventions and make a living for himself

however, he gets caught in a snowstorm and between dormant magic of his own and actual ice, he ends up waking up on a spaceship 1000 years later a la captain america

the crew on this ship are fighting and losing against a shapeshifter alien race, and they need a secret weapon (magic) to defeat them. having examined "ancient" texts, they know humans once had magic but forgot about it over the years

this is basically a nightmare for wicks--the world has developed exactly how he wanted it to, but not only do people need magic but they expect him to teach them! as he comes into his fire/ice powers (he has both), he again unlearns this bias and makes some friends along the way

in this canon, he dates a cute girl named alice, but she's not particularly relevant to his character arc like the other two love interests. he also meets a cool rival dude character who turns out to be his great-great-(etc) nephew. it's still in its early stages, so idk

updating this thread with the semi-newly crafted f!wicks, noa fenwick

she's very different from m!wicks in terms of basic personality traits (f!wicks is more upbeat/outgoing and MUCH flirtier), but her core values remain the same: magic is for poopoo babies who don't like innovation

she also leaves her hometown (called bexley) in search of an inventor career, along with a robot she's made called ADAM. most important difference between the wickses: fem!wicks wouldnt fuck a robot (she's a big lesbian, in case you couldn't tell from the design)

her story is a revamp of an old one i made based on dqix called archangel, the new version is an rpg maker game that follows four people with separate journeys/parties that come together at the end. fem!wicks is one of these four

her party so far consists of ADAM and the wizard from festivoux (previously mentioned in this thread, but she obv doesn't date him in this verse) in case you couldn't tell i reuse ocs a lot lmao

new archangel is kind of a mishmosh of a bunch of old projects of mine all squashed together, so there'll be a lot of repeat names and faces! anyway, that's fem!wicks so far, ill update this thread with any new canons/developments

new au so new addition to this thread! pokemon gym leader wicks, he runs the steam-type gym, a type i invented!

idk much about steam-type yet except that its weak to ice for reasons i dont even know myself

while im in this thread, i decided to use male wicks in archangel instead of femwicks. rip noa you were hot but that was literally the only reason to include you
