Agnes Hardie, stalwart of Scottish Labour - a talented speaker she was the 1st women on Glasgow Trades Council. She opposed conscription in WWI as a pacifist. In 1937 she became an MP & during WWII was nicknamed the & #39;housewife& #39;s MP& #39; cos she spoke out about rationing. Go Agnes. /2
Mary Grant was arrested for disrupting Lloyd George speaking in Aberdeen. When she tried to get in to hear Ramsay MacDonald she was removed by 8 men. Fearless, she became a policewoman & later joined the Liberal Party for whom she lectured on social issues. Chapeau to Mary /3
We have TORIES too and we have to own that. Margaret Anderson ran anti-aircraft brigades in WWII. She went on to be the 1st women deputy speaker of the Commons. Florence Horsburgh organised organised children& #39;s evacuations in WW2. She was the 1st female in a Tory Cabinet. /4
Orcadian Florence Marian McNeill was a suffragette who worked in social research. A talented folklorist she collected recipes & wrote about traditions, in which she v much included women. in 1933 she was one of the founding members of the SNP and its first Vice President. /5
Another SNP founding member was artist Wendy Wood who in 1932 broke into Stirling Castle and removed the Union flag, replacing it with a Lion Rampant. in 1972 she went on hunger strike for Home Rule. How absolutely banging! Gaun Wendy. /6
In Scotland we have a whole tradition, by the way, of female political activists to be hugely proud of. I wrote about them in this thread:

We also have a bunch of foremothers who were absolute sheroes, defending our rights in the courts. So political. So inspiring. I wrote about them here:

Politics is tiring but our grannies fought actual fascists & stood up to sexism of proportions we can only imagine. We mustn& #39;t forget we come from amazing. They changed the world & so can we. It starts with voting. & Yes I wrote a book, of course I did

Quick Bonus and a personal one. Margo MacDonald was an independent who campaigned for assisted dying. I didn& #39;t always agree with her but I miss her in the world esp around election time. She was always kind to me and I loved her directness. #GeneralElection19
You know I could keep going, right? I mean WE ARE NOT SHORT OF AMAZING SCOTTISH WOMEN in our history. Say it. Shout it. Sing it. Live it. Be proud. #Feminism Now go and vote on Thursday with your head held high.
