So let me see if I've got this straight:
-Democrats are writing articles of impeachment, which will almost certainly be adopted by the Judiciary Committee and pass the House
-It's similarly almost certain the Senate will not convict and remove
1/
-The investigation which led to the impeachment of President Clinton helped Democrats in the 1998 midterms
-Impeaching Trump will likely help motivate his supporters (minority of Americans) and will help him win certain swing states and possibly re-election
2/
-Not impeaching Trump may be just as bad, since Democratic voters overwhelmingly support impeachment, so not doing it may look like dereliction.
-The case against Trump for bribery, obstruction of Congress, and Obstruction of justice are overwhelming
3/
-In spite of overwhelming evidence, Republicans are not being swayed.
-There are almost certainly more crimes (various forms of fraud, aiding and abetting Russian cyber crimes) but Trump has that tied up in litigation for the foreseeable future.
4/
-Republicans are arguing on procedural issues, which is bizarre since impeachment procedures are not spelled out in great detail in the Constitution.
-The House Committees are treating this as a trial- most of the members are former attorneys. But impeachment is not a trial.
5/
-The Supreme Court has two Trump appointees. Seems like a conflict of interest to have them involved in any appeals or trials. But can SCOTUS members recuse?
6/
-The blocking of witnesses is arguably the lynch pin here. McGahn, Bolton, Pompeo, Mulvaney, Guiliani, Cohen, Flynn, Comey, Yates, McCabe, Hicks, Coates, Rosenstein, Mueller, Don Jr, Kushner, etc should all be witnesses in the Senate trial.

end of thread. I have more thoughts, but I'm done for now.
