Greek Mythology & Jungian Psychology in the MMA performance.

Each solo stage represents a greek god or goddess.

“A Jungian analysis of classical mythology would claim that the main gods and goddesses express archetypes that are common to human thinking everywhere”
Going from these 2 statements here’s how @BTS_twt incorporated both philosophies in their performance.
Taehyung is Apollo (God of the Sun, light, oracles, knowledge, healing, diseases, music, poetry, songs, dance, archery, herds and flocks, and protection of young)

In the Jungian theory, Apollo represents the archetype of the KOO young man on the cusp of
manhood and independence.

Which becomes even more interesting considering he did ‘No More Dream. A song about youth grasping their destiny & achieving their dreams no matter what society tells them.
Jin represents Ares (god of war)

“The archetype of Ares, represents the time between the transmission of a new attitude (or mode of cultural expression and values) and the acceptance of these values”. He is the the image of a young and resolute man
hungry to make his impact on the world. And this is precisely what the archetype is and represents.
Jin’s song is ‘Danger’. Although from afar it seems like the lyrics dont really go well with Ares’ archetype it’s actually about the angst of the man & therefore is perfectly embedded in the whole storyline.
- Jimin is Artemis (Goddess of hunting, wild animals, wilderness & the moon)

“Within the Artemis archetype, we find a dual expression of both guardian and destroyer”. This archetype emphasizes on choosing your own destiny. Artemis can be destructive.
Jimin’s song is ‘I Need U’. The song is about a destructive relationship that is falling apart. Although the Artemis archetype represents an independent woman who doesn’t need a relationship to survive, Artemis did have lovers but she killed one of them when he was trying to
seduce her. This goes with the toxic relationship shown in INU lyrics.
- Yoongi is Hephaestus (god of fire)

“Hephaestus is the archetype of the crippled craftsman or wounded creator, whose creativity is inseparable from his emotional wounds. This is a craftsman very much like a wounded healer whose goal to heal comes from
him or herself being so wounded, and his wound heals as he begins to heal others”. To put it simply, Hephaestus symbolizes a person whose attributes are not valued in a patriarchal society, so he has a rough time achieving success.
Yoongi’s song is ‘Fire’. The song is mainly about setting everything on fire & doing whatever you want.
“Just live because we’re young
Who are you to compare me with others?”.
They’re essentially saying that no matter what society tells you, you should live your life as you please.
Jungkook is Poseidon (god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses)

“Poseidon God of the sea is the archetype covering the domain of emotion and instinct”. He seeks power & wants to rule. He is the only god that has access of the depths of the sea
which grants him knowledge the other deities dont have. Hes also known to be bad tempered.

Jungkook’s song is ‘Save Me’. There’s actually a fairytale representing Poseidon at the bottom of the sea that tells the story of a dog that goes near the water and a man takes said dog to
the water with him. It’s interesting because theres a lyric in ‘Save Me’ that goes
“When I think of you the sun comes out
So I gave my sadness to the dog”

It might be far fetched but it’s an interesting coincidence.
Nonetheless the song is about someone needing and begging to be saved & the Poseidon archetype, although can be violent & somewhat toxic, is also in need of someone to save him.
Namjoon is Dionysus (god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre)

This one is a bit obvious since they were going to perform the song anyway 😅.
“The Dionysus archetype has powerful positive and negative potentialities, stirring up the most ethereal and the basest of feelings, creating conflicts within the psyche and with society”.
The Dionysus archetype is multifaceted but since the song is about partying & drinking that’s the part it’s more focused on.
WELL IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR CONGRATULATIONS 😂🥳

This is just my take on it based on what I read of Jung’s work & my knowledge of Greek Mythology. If there are any inaccuracies please let me know.
I think it’s just fascinating how @BTS_twt managed to incorporate all of these elements in their performance 🥰✨
sorry for the delay for Hoseok’s part. It wouldn’t tweet 🙄

N E WAYS LETS GET IT!!!

Hoseok is Zeus (god of of the sky and thunder)

The archetype of Zeus is the patriarch. He shares some of the features of the archetype of the "wise old man".
This archetype is one of a powerful man.

Hoseok’s song is ‘Fake Love’. The song is essentially about molding oneself to fit a certain ideal. To be someone’s doll. The complete opposite of the Zeus archetype.
