I love the BBC. It produces quality content across multiple genres on TV, radio and online that is the envy of the world and does it on a tight budget for the price of a tabloid newspaper each day. Forcing it to complete in the commercial sector would be a huge mistake... 1/2
But there is something deeply broken in its news department that, even if you don't subscribe to tin foil hatted conspiracy theories, is profoundly troubling, a confused indifference to objectivity bordering on negligence. These views are not mutually exclusive. 2/2
It might be time for an independent inquiry into the news department of the BBC. It must regain the trust of the people who use it. It's got a long way to go.
