So if I'm following this right (by no means a given): the ex-OIC Sumith Champika Perera, who testified in 2016 that the Thajudeen "accident" was a murder, appeared two days ago at a press conference run by SLPP stooges to say that the Thajudeen murder was an "accident."
Sumith Champika Perera is the very same OIC originally arrested for concealing evidence on the Thajudeen murder. He was acquitted earlier this year after he turned state's witness on the bigger fish, DIG Anura Senanayake, who was supposed to take the yahapalanaya fall for this.
I.e., this is the Sumith Champika Perera who extensively testified a few years ago that Senanayake pressured him to call Thajudeen's murder an "accident" and that he obeyed in fear for his own life, even though as the officer on the scene he immediately knew it was murder.
Two days ago, the same Sumith Champika Perera says that actually, after his arrest he was pressured by CID officers (including Shani Abeysekera and Sisira Tissera, both very recently transferred under the current admin) to call the "accident" a murder, and—
—that these CID officers pressured him specifically to say that Namal and Gota forced him to cover up the murder, which he did not do because, he says, they did nothing of the sort. And also it really was an "accident" all along, and in fact he has Evidence of this.
Specifically, he has had secret evidence, bottles of Old Arrack and packets of fried මඤ්ඤොක්කා chips taken from Thajudeen's apartment, presumably implying that the murder was a drunk driving "accident" (and concealing *this* evidence is presumably covered by double jeopardy?)
Perera also observes that if he *had* named Namal and Gota as responsible for the cover up of the Thajudeen murder at the time, as he was allegedly being pressured to do, that he would now have to flee the country like Nishantha Silva. (Yeah, he said that part out loud)
So the Thajudeen murder, which was an "accident" during the previous Rajapaksa administration—and an "accident" during the Rajapaksa campaign this year, when Mahinda called it the consequences of speeding—is again becoming an "accident" as the CID purge runs its course.
The presser at which Perera spoke was run by Sathya Gaveshakayo—"truth seekers", it is to lol—an org which is basically Premnath Dolawatte, the Rajapaksa lawyer who publicly wrote to Gota back in May saying he should not appear in court because "some judges are terrorists."
It is interesting, though, how these various front organizations tend to name themselves. The Sathya Gaveshakayo have exactly the same relationship to truth as the Buddhist Information Centre has to information: it is the thing they have been given to hunt down and destroy.
