this from @AyoCaesar is absolutely correct. we cant hope to “rehabilitate” people if theres no functioning probation service to catch them when they leave prison. the answer isnt tougher or longer sentences simply leaving ppl to rot inside, but real investment in the system + ppl

spoke to @oonskie abt this for a piece: “Longer sentences, more police powers+ bringing prison into community in form of electronic tagging will do nothing to address real causes of violence or impact of criminalisation, will simply worsen the trend of punishing those in crisis.”

locking ppl up for longer in dangerously overcrowded prisons whilst cutting MoJ at unfathomable rates+throwing entire criminal justice+probation systems into chaos won’t keep anyone safe. quite the opposite. tories plans to do so are a dereliction of duty to ppl of this country
