The UK healthcare regulatory system is intended to protect members of the public. I’m sure that many people think it’s effective and some CAM practitioners treat approval as a “badge of honour”. With a few recent examples I’ll show how little protection it provides <thread>
The @prof_standards accredited the Society of Homeopaths even though many of their members offer the truly appalling CEASE therapy which they claim is a “cure” for #Autism. Thankfully, @GoodThinkingSoc are challenging this https://goodthinkingsociety.org/judicial-review-over-psa-reaccreditation-of-society-of-homeopaths-granted-permission-by-high-court/">https://goodthinkingsociety.org/judicial-... #homeopathy
The @GenChiroCouncil allowed a chiropractor to continue to practice after a patient died when undergoing treatment with her. They reached this decision based on factually incorrect advice from an “expert chiropractor”: …https://complementaryandalternative.wordpress.com/2019/11/25/chiropractic-and-osteopathy-regulators-should-use-doctors-as-experts-in-fitness-to-practice-cases/">https://complementaryandalternative.wordpress.com/2019/11/2... #chiropractic
The @gosc_uk suspended an osteopath for having sex with a patient and removed another from their register for unacceptable professional conduct but both are able to continue to practice using a different title: https://www.kentlive.news/news/sussex-news/osteopath-keeps-job-parents-practice-3581495?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar">https://www.kentlive.news/news/suss... and …https://complementaryandalternative.wordpress.com/2019/09/09/former-osteopath-continues-to-mislead-the-public-and-claims-that-doctors-know-very-little-about-health/">https://complementaryandalternative.wordpress.com/2019/09/0... #osteopathy

Hopefully these few examples help to highlight how little protection members of the public actually receive from the healthcare regulatory system. Buyer beware! <end>
