Before I got to bed, a few more thoughts on tonight& #39;s @LigaBBVAFemenil Final:
The level of engagement around this was incredible. The fans in the stadium were great for optics and provided a great atmosphere. The match was thrilling. Perhaps more importantly there was a ton of buzz around this on this very website.
While that& #39;s something I& #39;ve always hoped would happen, the reality has been markedly different. Despite the proselytizing that myself and some others have done for the league, it seems to always get shoved aside. I hope some people watched tonight and became fans.
As good as tonight was however, there are a couple things that worry me. First and foremost is that the next leg still hasn& #39;t been scheduled. If it has, it& #39;s not on the @LigaBBVAFemenil website. I don& #39;t know how people can watch if they don& #39;t know when it is.
It& #39;s also most likely not going to be on television in the US. I reached out to FOX Sports earlier this week and the person I talked to said they hadn& #39;t heard that it would be aired.
While I don& #39;t remember a match on any FOX property in the US, they couldn& #39;t air it if they wanted to because the date and time aren& #39;t anywhere to be found. It& #39;s hard to air a show if you don& #39;t know when it& #39;s happening!
This could really be a watershed moment for a league that sorely needs this sort of attention. The optics of this last match were amazing on all fronts. I hope when the second match happens, it& #39;s given the opportunity to match or surpass tonight.
Anyway, support women& #39;s soccer.
