Drew Lock Thread:

They then got Risner, and used the extra pick to get the guy they wanted a round later. Broncos were happy because they got what they wanted and then some.

the Broncos were losing/slipping towards being out of contention. Drew getting hurt, and needing to go on IR to save roster spots for a team that Eway hoped could be competitive threw a curve ball. At that point, Drew needed to be on IR 8 weeks, and it would be a matter of
Bringing him back to speed with caution in terms of making sure he was physically and mentally ready. In the meantime, Elway and coaches held out hope they could turn season around before bye week (as they should if they want to keep their jobs.) It didn’t happen. So plan
became to wait till after bye (so Drew isn’t activated in a situation where bye week takes away a full week of prep) so team could make a full evaluation. He passed the test, and all reports are that he will start on Sunday. Without injury, he gets 8 games instead of 5. So he
Lost 3 games. That sucks, but it allowed the team to identify Brandon Allen’s future with this team, which helped them peg what could be their long term backup. Now, we move into the “we do this everytime with young QBs.” No, we really don’t. As fans, it is easy to get impatient,
but every situation has been unique. First QB was Osweiler. Osweiler didn’t play because we had PFM, and duh. During the super bowl run, Osweiler played well, and the team wanted him. Just not bad enough to overspend after 4 years of evaluations. He left. So on to the next.
Elway traded up in Rd1 for Paxton Lynch. He wasn’t the only team interested. Unfortunately, Paxton didn’t have the drive/work ethic required to be successful. He got beat out in camp. And if I can, let’s address the “why won’t we play young QBs” talking point. TREVOR SIEMIAN.
He was a 2nd year 7thRd QB who’d only ever taken a kneel down, and Kubiak started him the entire year (with the exception of a few games due to injury.) Trevor was barely past being a rookie, and there was zero hesitation letting him start for a team coming off a super bowl win.
The reason, and only reason, Paxton wasn’t thrown to the fire is because he was no where close to being ready. The second season, he continued to be bad at football, and he got hurt. That entire season they wanted him to play, and he wasn’t healthy enough. So Siemian to Osweiler,
and then Paxton plays, falls on his face and gets hurt again, and that was it. Had nothing to do with hesitation or any of that. He simply didn’t do the bare minimum to earn a chance to see the field. Case Keenum comes in, Chad Kelly beats out Paxton, and then right before Chad
was going to have his name called, he GOT ARRESTED. Broncos let a 7th rounder knock their 1st Rd pick from 2 years ago off the roster, and you think they hesitate with young players?? Now we have Lock, who based on attitude and physical talents, to me is already the best QB that
Elway has ever drafted. Time will tell. But the impatience with not having the guy is leading to a lot of revisionist history. Same with the “all these QBs Elway has drafted” narrative. He’s spent a total of one 1st round pick, two 2nd rounders, and three 7th rounders. We talk
as if he’s the past GMs of the Browns who have spent how many 1st rounders before Baker maybe solved the position? Finding a QB is hard, and more aggression was probably needed by the FO. But they refused to sell the farm in an attempt to build a team, and here we are. We have
a young team LOADED with potential young superstars in Lindsay, Simmons, Sutton, Fant, AJ Johnson, Chubb, etc. If Lock pans out, he joins a very talented squad that can compete next year.
Yes I have my complaints with Elway. Signing injury prone FAs to big deals, his struggles

lot to be excited about and Lock could at long last be the final piece of the puzzle. It’s far too soon to crown him, but it’s equally too soon to suggest he’s somehow going to wind up like the past 2 QBs Elway drafted high in the hopes of being the guy.
Not all is doom & gloom.

But you’d already know that if you listened to folks who actually know, and earn their audience through smart reporting instead of clickbait nonsense.
