An update from yesterday& #39;s ABLLS-R assessment. We did the same assessment 1 year and 1 day ago, and the boy scored 309. His score this time around was 828. He& #39;s gaining skills so rapidly that it& #39;s almost impossible to keep up at times, and that& #39;s awesome! /1
He& #39;s in a great school with a fantastic school board.
We work with an excellent ABA provider.
We get awesome support from Ron Joyce for OT.
St. Elizabeth has provided great consultative SLP/OT services.
The boy is in a good place, and it will continue to get better. /2
This is both a good thing and a problem. In order to get these things for the boy, we had to move.
We had to establish strong relationships with the school and the board.
I had to spend several days researching providers in multiple regions.
/3
I had to set inheritance money aside from my father& #39;s passing in 2018 to fund the boy& #39;s therapy. That suggestion @AmyFeePC had about using inheritance money? Yeah, we& #39;re doing it.
We needed to establish relationships with multiple providers in Hamilton.

I had to scale back my business to part time so that I could take the boy to his various appointments and therapies.

That is a laundry list of things. And IMN House did each and every one of them. And for what? Healthcare. We did these things to get healthcare for our son. /5
The vast majority of people cannot and should not have to do these things. Single parents. Immigrant/newcomer families. People who simply cannot navigate the bizarre and fragmented system of services for a child, and who simply want to "take them to the doctor to get better." /6
People who don& #39;t have dying parents and therefore don& #39;t have that option. People running AirBNBs or selling jewelry. People who don& #39;t have flex in their schedule. First Nations people, who can& #39;t even think about autism because they don& #39;t know what garbage is in their water. /7
Everyone in Canada should have at least the same level of access to service that the boy does without having to rely on inheritances or a Childhood Lottery prize from the Ministry of Community, Children& #39;s Gaming, and Social Services or requiring a Ph.D. in system navigation. /8
This all has a very simple solution, and it& #39;s in a lovely 63-page PDF that is now in the public sphere. Get the lead out, @ToddSmithPC. Parents shouldn& #39;t have to wait anymore. We& #39;ve done that. It& #39;s your turn now. #NoMoreChildhoodLottery #TickTockTodd /9 /END
