My family can relate. Because of bad business, staff are being fired from my dad’s work. The new management is terrible and rude. Mg dad spends a lot just to commute. He wants to quit but can’t. With music events cancelled, my brother’s gigs are cancelled. https://sc.mp/m7eh4
And with the situation in Hong Kong, our market there (and I work in Japan) are affected. In fact, it was one of the main reasons why our previous quarter was challenging.
Expressed my worry a while back. https://twitter.com/imjiannems/status/1168438358437052417
And here too. My dad is so overjoyed when a mini-bus that goes to work is running. Otherwise, he takes the taxi. If not, he walks. Like all the way home. That’s more than an hour of walking and he can’t even walk very well... https://twitter.com/imjiannems/status/1195501991515934720
They’ve always been apolitical and neutral when it comes to HK affairs and always asks me to stop being so outspoken. But not this time. They’re not blaming the protests. They’re blaming the government especially since they see a link between HK and the Ph.
They’re more worried and scared. I don’t blame them for looking at financial stability as their #1 concern (they moved to HK for a better life in the first place). They sympathize but hope it’ll also end (positively) soon.
