If Netflix wanted to give me a bunch of money, I'd pitch a limited anthology series (like Dolly Parton's Heartstrings) but all the episodes would be queer romance stories based on Christmas songs. Some examples:
Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses - The heroine of the song tries all year to go on a date with her dream girl, but disasters keep happening! Will a chance encounter at the grocery store when they both forget cranberry sauce lead to a romantic holiday? I think maybe yes!
Little Drummer Boy - A drummer of a small town band starts to realize he may be bisexual when he develops feelings for the band's seasoned gay bass player. Will he confess before the big Holiday Battle of the Bands? I think maybe yes!
Oi to the World by No Doubt - It's West Side Story with a holiday twist when two gender non-conforming folx from rival gangs accidentally end up under the same mistletoe. Can they put their allegiances aside for a chance at holiday love? I think maybe yes!
All I Want for Christmas Is You - When our heroine receives a Secret Santa gift that's just a note that says "All I want for Christmas is you," the search is on for who it could be. Will she find love while avoiding trouble with HR this holiday season? I think maybe yes!
2000 Miles by the Pretenders - When long distance lovers, living 2000 miles apart, plan to surprise each other with a trip home for the holidays, will they miss each other? Or will a holiday miracle in between their homes help them end up together? I think maybe yes!
Lo’ How a Rose E’er Blooming - It's Rose's first holiday at home since she came out as trans. As she navigates the road to acceptance with her conservative family, will she possibly find love in her hometown in the unlikeliest of places? I think maybe yes!
Just Another Christmas Song (This Time I’ll Sing Along) by Sharon Jones - A divorcee and a widow meet online in a group of folks who are "over the holidays." Will sparks fly when they meet up for a *non-holiday* drink, despite their grumpiness? I think maybe yes!
Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson - Two guys who tied for valedictorian in high school now run rival Christmas Tree farms in the same New England County. Will rivals become lovers when stuck by mistake in the same cabin on a snowy weekend? I think maybe yes!
Five Pound Box of Money by Pearl Bailey - It's Set It Off, but holiday-style (!), when two lesbian petty thieves plan a heist. But will it be their hearts that get stolen on one last job before Christmas morning? I think maybe yes!
Angels We Have Heard on High - Our hero owns a cannabis store that's on the verge of shutting down. One night he gets so high, he doesn't know if he meets a man of his dreams or an actual angel. Will he track down this person before his dreams go up in smoke? I think maybe yes!
Anyway, get at me @netflix. Let's talk casting.
