Since the dawn of the Original Six, two defencemen have never finished first and second in rookie scoring.

Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes are currently first and second.
Bobby Orr and Brian Leetch are the only two defencemen to win the rookie scoring race in that time. Leetch was the last to do it in 1988-89, with 71 points in 68 games.

Makar is on pace for 85 points, which would smash Larry Murphy's NHL record. Hughes is on pace for 68.
The only time in NHL history two defencemen finished first and second in rookie scoring was 1931-32. Four defencemen actually finished 1-4: Red Horner, Doug Young, Alex Levinsky, and Earl Seibert.

Horner had 16 points in 42 games as the highest scoring rookie.
