i wish the people who passive aggressively say "let the fans design the merch" because they don& #39;t like brandon rike& #39;s work would take the time to listen to his podcast and interviews and understand /why/ it looks the way it does.
these elements are /part/ of the trench bible
so when you put these things in a blender to pluck things out of for the next 3-4 years, this is what you are going to see
listen.
the words "visual religion" also come up in a really interesting way -- in a few episodes, this one& #39;s back in 2016 -- and i guess because i& #39;m a huge fan of rike it feels like a betrayal when people shit on this ecosystem of art he and mark and chris s created.
and it is that -- a specific set of symbols, colors, textures, imagery, overall tone that manifests in clothes, visuals, stage, posters, billboards, tv lower-thirds -- all of it comes from the same place, built for the purpose of being cohesive
so it& #39;s like, if you don& #39;t like what trench looks like, well, i guess you just don& #39;t like what trench looks like.
it& #39;s in every possible way the opposite of "it ain& #39;t that deep".
anyway look at what might be a proto version of the statue in rike& #39;s early blurryface sketches?
muting this thread since it& #39;s been misinterpreted as interest in the Hot Merch Takes of strangers. no
