Do albertans realize that budgets have been repeatedly cut for years now, while everyone yells about AHS & school boards needing to tighten their belts all along? No one realizes they have been cutting costs & freezing salaries for years already? 1/x
Parents have already been seeing school fees go up, or transportation services dropped for students. There’s already 30 kids in a classroom, it’s likely to jump up to 35-40 in the new year. 2/x
For many of our public servants, it has already been years since they saw a raise. Some are currently working without a contract. 3/x
Laying off public servants isn’t the same as for private biz where there’s no market / depressed prices. The workload is still there for teachers and nurses, fire, police, emas, etc. They are still serving the same population. 5/x
Oops I skipped 4. 🤷🏻‍♀️. So here’s the real 5/x
So now the same work is there, just less people to do it. That’s longer wait times at hospitals, less time spent with each patient, more students per teacher, less individual attention available for each. 6/x
More burden on parents to pay the increased fees for school, cover more transportation costs. This isn’t getting ‘leaner’ - this is shifting the financial burden. 7/x
Which I mean - sure *youre fine with that, of course. Not everyone is though. Our kids are going to ultimately pay for this. As are our ill. All while corps got their big tax cut (IDGAF about 2.3 or 4.7 spin from either side, it’s still effed up priorities). 8/x
So what I gotta say about all of this is .. yeah... thanks a fucking lot for voting this government in. They’re doing great 🙄 / end
