continuing my Star Wars binge by rewatching ep VII now that i remotely understand what Star Wars is. for a world so obsessed with balance in the force where everything is “100% light or dark,” has no one proposed like... a medium force? a halfsies force? a milquetoast force
the fundamental concept of “maybe our space magic isn’t perfectly good or perfectly bad and you can use it without immediately and irrevocably dedicating your life to one extreme” seems to not exist in this IP
also having just watched A New Hope for the first real time, episode VII is the same movie with some of the whiteboard bits shuffled around in the writing room. Poe is just Han Solo plus leia, lol
i feel now that VII is a reactionary swing from the prequels on some level. like the safe, known thing was to just give the fans a modern remix of Ep IV, not to try something wildly new. what baffles me is fans who seem to love Ep IV but hate VII? is it just nostalgia goggles?
also i had to retype this tweet three times because what fucking number is the first Star Wars movie? four. it’s four. of course it is
ultimately i feel like i understand the appeal of Star Wars a lot better after watching them all (except episode VIII which is next). i am going to pick up Jedi fallen order, which will be my first Star Wars game purchase, and probs watch clone wars as well
