not a personal attack on but*ig*eg, but I think one reason I admittedly resent his candidacy (aside from his recent opportunistic policy shifts) is that he represents many of the characteristics I once felt I needed to embody in order to be accepted as a gay man. (1/3)
this isn’t a “pete’s not gay enough” criticism - it’s not really a criticism of him personally at all. it’s more a criticism of the culture that left me feeling that way as a younger guy, I guess? (2/3)
of course it’s expected that the “first [any marginalized group] to be president” needs to be palatable enough for mainstream america to tolerate their candidacy. but it’s still disappointing! (3/3)
