Fun air testing my house with the kids present in order to have a baseline before #insulation and #airtightness work starts on our #EnerPHit #Retrofit project.
Existing window frames very leaky.
As are the window installations...
Plus lots of leaks from random places. Pretty sure this undersink leak is via the suspended floor. Possibly also from ventilated cavity outside timber frame wall.
I haven’t accurately calculated the volume of the house yet but result is approximately 15 air changes per hour at 50pa. To reach #Passivhaus #EnerPHit standard we’ll need to reduce that by a factor of 10! Benefits for comfort and air quality will be dramatic.
Interesting to note that even though the house is super leaky and we also open the trickle vents (were closed for test) the air-quality is still poor. ‘Natural ventilation’ sounds lovely but is an unreliable way of providing fresh air.
