Here& #39;s a #BlacklistFriday story: in 2012 I moved to LA after having a script developed by the former head of Paramount. It didn& #39;t sell, but it felt like "the time" to move. I had a writing partner and a manager at the time. In less than 3 months, both those were gone. @theblcklst
My writing partner had a good job. We wrote together, so that meant he had to give up a day of his weekends. It meant I didn& #39;t write most of the time. So I took an idea he didn& #39;t spark to & wrote it. It was wild & expensive - a big budget comedy called THE DEVIL TAKES A HOLIDAY.
Our manager hated it. Called my partner to say it would kill our career if it got out. I couldn& #39;t believe it, but it was the first thing I& #39;d written on my own. Maybe it wasn& #39;t good. Cut to: 6 months later. No writing partner, no manager. But I heard about @theblcklst uploads.
I thought "if these readers also hate it, then I& #39;ll know I& #39;m not cut out for this. Maybe I can find another writing partner." I submitted it, and this is what I got back:
This was the shot of confidence I needed. I took this and went back to the people we& #39;d had generals with. One producer liked my pitch for a film called DRUNK DIAL. That film is going into production in 2020. #BlacklistFriday @theblcklst
I might have quit if it hadn& #39;t been for @theblcklst. I will always be grateful to @franklinleonard for creating a place where new voices get discovered and amplified. Plus, I just found out that a producer I& #39;m working with slipped them another one of my scripts...
So #screenwriters, do you have a story of where @theblcklst helped you? In the spirit of Thanksgiving, give them a shout out and tag it #BlacklistFriday
