THREAD: I don’t know what @ohiogop is huffing or snorting, but their bill will kill women with a very serious condition by insisting on an impossible, nonexistent medical procedure, and punishing those who’ll fail to perform it with life in jail or death. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/29/ohio-extreme-abortion-bill-reimplant-ectopic-pregnancy">https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2...
This is on top of their other accomplishment, a bill that lets kids answer questions on science and other factually based tests however they want without losing any points as long as they say it’s their religion to answer this way. https://www.newsweek.com/ohio-student-religious-liberties-act-1472008">https://www.newsweek.com/ohio-stud...
Basically, they want to return the state to the 19th century because they figure that in the absence of new, well-paying jobs outside of Columbus and Cleveland, they can bribe their ever less rational and ever more enraged and Foxified base with culture war red meat on meth.
Or they overdosed on their own kool aid and now lead a shrieking, terrified and furious Bircherite doomsday cult from the statehouse. Either way, I’m glad I no longer live in a state ran by irrational lunatics and power hungry cynics exploiting those lunatics for personal gain.
I’m far from the only person who feels this way. Ohio is experiencing serious brain drain, especially when it comes to STEM professionals because we don’t want to live in a state that refuses to listen to science, reason, and anyone who isn’t on Fox News. https://www.dispatch.com/opinion/20190215/column-brain-drain-might-leave-local-government-jobs-unfilled">https://www.dispatch.com/opinion/2...
Every state has its problems, but red states like Ohio are hellbent on making themselves a worse place to live and work unless you’re a middle aged man who spends his day mainlining right wing conspiracy theories or care only about lowering your taxes and literally nothing else.
