This whole conversation about Twitter not selling books is wild because what would my career be without social media and Twitter in particular?
Twitter and social media have played a huge role in letting people know what I write and why I write it. It's been one of the biggest ways I've done advocacy and reached out to other trans people both in and outside of the industry.
Even when I used to write a lot of blog posts I'd promote them via social media. Twitter is also how I've met industry people, authors, editors, publishers. I've been offered writing, publishing, and speaking opportunities because of it.
I have also met people with much bigger followings than me who have read my books and go on to recommend them to others. That's how I make the vast majority of my sales.
I am a marginalized author who writes about one of the least represented marginalized groups in romance and for the entirety of my career I've had next to no marketing money put into my books. Social media is all I have.
So all the books I've sold? Everyone who knows my name? Every time my books get reviews, bought by a library, nominated for an award, mentioned in an article, nine times out of ten it's because of Twitter.
