I had a great insight this week into a scientific conference outside of academia. It was inclusive of people at every stage of their career, from volunteers and PhD students to the CEO of the organisation 1/4
I have always felt some boundaries at academic conferences, especially between the most senior attendees and students. There also tends to be a bias towards talks from the most senior people, with less talks from ECRs (or maybe poster presentation opportunities instead) 2/4
It was so refreshing to see a very different environment this week! I felt so welcomed from everyone, had several conversations with people 'high up' in the organisation, and noticed a focus on making sure everyone felt supported and appreciated (+ lots of talks from ECRs) 3/4
Thank you @RSPBScience and @ellingbry for the opportunity to attend (and thanks to the puffins as always!) #rspbscieconf19 #altac #phdchat #puffarazzi 4/4
