Just back from Southside Housing Association’s official opening of James Salmon Jr’s British Linen Bank in the Gorbals. Well, Salmon really did have a wicked sense of humour for look at marble threshold at entrance to the bank: it’s a spider in its web - v gothic no!?

Southside and their team including @pagepark have done a marvellous job with this ‘A’ listed tenement. Here is @Soryia cutting the ribbon at the base of the rebuilt rear staircase to the backcourt. I love Salmon’s #artnouveau wrought ironwork a great #GlasgowStyle moment !

I was last in this tenement in 2010 when it was a pigeon infested wreck. The transformation is truly astonishing!

The restored tenement will now act as the ‘point-de-vue’ down Bedford Street which is gradually being enclosed by buildings once more and is to become a linear park through New Laurieston. It is fascinating to see how this part of #Glasgow’s cityscape is slowly healing!
