"Dr. Chua stated that his wife, Remy, also Filipina, would go into a trance-like state & claimed to be the spirit of Teresita Basa."
Remy & Teresita had been co-workers at the hospital.
Remy first saw Teresita in a vision as she was napping at break time in a lounge at work.

Incredibly, Teresita named her killer (a black man named Allan Showery, 32 & an orderly at the same hospital) in one of these trance-like states.
Dr. Chua was stunned but also intrigued. His wife, Remy, had no recollection of any of what proved to be several of these episodes

An educated man, Dr Chua nevertheless hailed from a country where the mysteries had long been part of the cultural framework.
He & Remy were torn. Who would believe this in the US?
They felt a duty to report this information but how?
They did not go to the police...

Dr Chua was awakened by Remy again, speaking in a trance-like state. He decided to respond frankly to what seemed to be Teresita...
"We do not have any proof."
"I will give you proof," was the reply.

The voice then told Dr. Chua that Showery had taken Teresita's jewelry after the murder and given it to his girlfriend. Teresita's family members could identify the jewelry, the voice added.
With this they went to the police.
Incredibly, the police followed the lead.

A background check on Showery showed a sketchy past & his girlfriend indicated Showery had indeed given her some exotic jewelry in February.
She agreed to bring it in
& Teresita’s relatives agreed to come to the police station to examine the jewelry ~
& positively ID-ed it all

The Filipino culture in which the events transpired was central to the narrative yet when a film was made, no one was from the Philippines & the black perpetrator had become a White Canadian Irishman!
