Miles Morales: A Rant.

Over the years I have seen a number of people complain about 'black Spiderman' is if he were some horrendous insult to the 'source material'. Usually by people who like to watch mind numbing YouTube videos of a guy with an animal head avatar.

Anyway...
Let's address this argument, especially given the 'source material', something I am very familiar with.

Miles Morales is a half black, half Latino kid living in New York. But it is not the New York of the regular Marvel universe (616 O.G.). This was the 'Ultimate' Universe.
Ultimate, or Universe 1610 was created by Marvel in 2000 to try and breathe new life into a dying medium with fresh takes on all the Marvel titles while keeping the originals still going.

Some of these titles were amazingly well written, including the story of boy named Miles.
Peter Parker was dead, the mantle had to be passed. Miles was the right choice. Keep in mind during this time Marvel had no successful movies, their company was sinking. Miles stood out as exceptional not just because he was different, but because he was original and well written
The Marvel Universe is a multiverse with infinite possibilities. Or rather, it was.

Here comes dat source material, woop woop!

Mr Fantastic detected (through his secret Multiverse meetings with himself) that universe's were disappearing. Suffice to say it was a BIG BAD.
This Big Bad was from beyond everything. At the same time, Doctor Doom is time traveling with Molecule Man to basically power himself up while the biggest heroes assemble into a secretive Illuminati organization to try (and fail) to stop multiverse armageddon.
In the end, everything dies. Doom stands alone against powers so unimaginable they can effortlessly wipe out galaxies. He stands and says "No."

Fwoooosh! Everything is gone.
A new reality is born, a single patchwork mess many realities bleeding into each other. Doom is now God, with the big G. He rules what is left which is now called Battleworld.

Oh at one point he destroys Thanos like he was a fly.
Aaaaaanyway, while everything is collapsing and converging a small group of heroes from 616 manage to stow aboard an outer dimensional ship, a life raft. With them is Miles after another multi universe adventure.
Fast forward, blah blah, the heroes win. 616 is recreated. The Fantastic Four take their kid to go rebuild the multiverse. Miles ends up in 616 with Peter Parker. Badda bing, badda boom.
So when someone says 'I just want it close to the source material' they are stating one of two things:

1. They don't read comics because holy shit is that wacky.
2. They do read comics and a black character offends them.

Seriously, just shut the fuck up.

Thanks for reading.
Just wanted to correct (thanks @JamesGraber ) that Miles first debut was actually 2011. Other than that, seems about right.
