As a club felt it was time to communicate on our finances. We have pulled together a quick infographic to explain our tumultuous and stressful journey as a club over the last two years. It’s been really tough two years but through working as a team we have come a long way.
Financially we have paid off over £100k to the WRU and for the first time in 20 years we will receive some of our grant from the WRU in January. We are still waiting to pay off the HMRC debt having contacted them numerous times to settle our debt.
The money to pay this debt is safely sat in a separate account waiting for them to engage with us. In addition to the HMRC debt, we have also paid off the significant debt left with us following Caerphilly RFC hosting of the Dragons game.
All of this debt was to small local businesses and we made it our priority to pay them. We thank them for their patience with us over this period. In addition to all of this we have also settled a £25k legacy loan with the brewery.
It’s really hard to believe how much debt we had in Oct 2017 when we unknowingly volunteered to take on roles within the committee. With your support we have managed to turn the ship around. We are now a viable business that has a clear strategy going forward into 2020 and beyond
Our aim is to be the best community club in the WRU. We currently are the third largest club in the Union by participation numbers. We want to continue this growth - with the addition of a female rugby hub being based at the club this will hopefully support our aspiration.
The facilities we have are second to none and we will continue to improve them after 30 years of underinvestment - we have recently applied for a grant to refurbish the toilets. We have also fitted CCTV and are also currently in the process of replacing the ageing heating system.
This work has come at significant cost and will be completed next week. A grant from the WRU paid for the recent reinstatement of the training pitch floodlights at a cost of £25k. Very few clubs nationally are lucky enough to have two floodlight pitches at their disposal.
Our relationship with the WRU is also at an all time high with great feedback being received from them at all levels. We are currently working with the WRU and Hugh James Solicitors to become an incorporated limited company - protecting our members from any future liability.
We have strived to form greater links with the local community.- this is demonstrated by RV District choosing us as their home for the foreseeable future and also Newport High requesting us to host their televised games this season. We have also hosted the Army and Fire Brigade.
Categorically, without your help, support and drive over the last two years we would not be here as a club. All we can say is a big thank you for your energy and commitment. We go on.

Without YOU there would definitely be no US.
